possibilities for future funerals
International competition of Designboom 2013
I made it untill the shortlist
What do future funerals look like?
my input:
1) A self-sufficient durable crematorium; because it produces bio-fuel. Bio-fuel is made of algae. Algae grow better in waste water and CO2 and produce oxygen as a by-product. This can take place in a near (created) lake or the sea.
2) Hollow degradable coffins/sarcophagus made of humus, which can be filled with letters, flowers and seeds of flowers or trees. They float for some hours.
3)Luminescent algae or fungi that luminate the surface of the coffins for a while. The luminated surfaces are natural sourced. It can be glow fungi or luminescent algae.
In this way the whole memorial can be enlarged in a very special way.
Your loved ones slowly leave in light.
Bio-luminescent fungi or algae illuminate the humus made sarcophagus.
This coffin floats for several hours.
Beautiful for a ceremony on the water.
A memorial chest made of humus and covered with glow fungi.
The fungi glow about a week.
Writings, flowers and seed can be put inside of the coffin.
out of the seed the favourite flowers or tree can grow.

Lake memorail with luminescent algae ring.
The ring is made of humus en lubricated with luminescent algae gel.
The ring loats for several hours, the algae lighten up longer.

Een posthistorische biotope in the making
The Prototope project visualises processes of growth in general and, more in detail, the possible influence of genetic manipulation, giving DNA mutilation, and chemical waste on DNA and those processes in future.
Out of the mutilated DNA and the merging of it with invisible NANO technologies, very different kinds of creatures will emerge, among others transparent light emitting creatures and plants which communicate through colors, trembling movements and fragrances. This possible world will arise somewhere in the future.
In the realisation of Prototope a number of "post historic" plants and animals are made. These plants and animals seem to be made of ice and react on their surrounding. They are interactive and will react on visitors observing the plants and animals.

WHAT PLASTIC SOUP?
environment
Environment about the phenomenon plastic soup.
At this moment twice the size of america in plastics are floating in the oceans. bijeengedreven tot eilanden van wel 10 meter dik.

The Strictosaurus carries the eggs on its back and thanks its name to its tail.
With the tail the eggs can be protected and pricked open.
The Strictosaurus is the result of DNA transformation caused by human manipulation and chemical pollution during flourishing times.
In the back one sees the wastes of the flourishing society.

my profile
I have an enormous fascination for processes of growing in all possible meanings.
Going to the essence of things and from there creating worlds and atmospheres is what I love most.
Life is all about curiosity and processes that leed to deeper layers.
For me till the end, what else?
In the dDutch section you can find a small part of my CV.
I worked in so many areas, it takes a book to write it all down here.
It is more important whether the work touches your soul.
You can contact me to see my work in real life, it is a big difference compared with the pictures here. | |
